When your mind wanders during a quiet reading
A wandering mind need not end a quiet reading. Explore the Gita’s invitation to return your attention and its teaching about divine presence in living beings.
STEP 1
Begin with a short passage
Read the lines beginning “But, as often” in Chapter VI. Krishna describes the heart wandering from its focus and being brought back under the guidance of the Self.
STEP 2
Notice the invitation to return
Arnold pairs “as often” with “so oft.” The return can happen again and again. You can notice that repetition without expecting your attention to stay fixed from the start.
STEP 3
Bring it into your reading
For a simple reflection, imagine a household task interrupting your thoughts as you read. You might pause, find the line again, and continue when you are ready.
STEP 4
Stay with the spiritual meaning
The following lines describe seeing the Life-Soul in all living beings, and all beings within it. Krishna connects the inward return with recognizing the divine throughout life.
Read at your own pace; you can pause and come back to the passage.
